I want to start writing music on my computer (not
just dance music!). What software and equipment
do you recommend to get me started, that isn't too
expensive either?
(Note: I'm already classically trained in piano and
have a Mac).
Thanking you in advance
Grant

if you want to record audio tracks & add fx & have that alongside midi playback of either internal s/w synths or external hardware, then go for Logic or vst or cake, but i choose the former two
you'll need a decent fast pc, a decent i/o device like a midiman delta or somnething, and a master keyboard, faster the pc more synths before recording to audio etc... you get drums easy now, and samplers and loop playback all in the programme... another hot midi one for synths is \|Oriuon, but they didnt integrate audio yet, and when they do it's as yet an unknown quantity, could be good, but for that side of things the three bigger players have been around longer so they will have developed those audio-track features probably further it might be fair to say, we'll see...
