Franz Ferdinand won then. Bit of a weird year though because I felt that the Franz Ferdinand album and The Zutons album were the only strong albums this year. Please don't tell me about The Sreets. Please.

Maybe we should cos The Zuton album is better than anything else I've heard this year. Dance music included.

The Streets should change their name to The Cunts because they are exactly that. Franz Ferdinand arent doing anything original, although the lead singer looks quite good for someone who was supposed to of been assasinated in 1914.

The thing I like about Franz Ferdinand is that their tunes consist of around 4 mini tunes within one song. Constantly changing every bloody 8 bars but still sounding cohesively like one tune. I like that.

who? never heard of zutons. and franz ferdinand and the rest should get back to whichever era of rock they escaped from. has anyone noticed a connection between "new" old rock music, 80's fashoin, retro design on cars and the rest? its all a plot to make us forget we're in 21st century, i swear!!!

halfway through the franz ferdinand cd....i've realized how fortunate i am
to live in the states where no one pretends towards sophistication
that which is utter prattish crap.

this ain't even good retro.

do you really dance around to this dominic?
is that wee scottish fire really out of control?

well...good thing somebody likes them.

i sold the cd for 5.50 on e-bay within an hour.
i paid 10+ tax....so...i guess that's okay.

but from now on...i'm gonna stick to TEEN-BEAT for my recommendations.

I havent listened to the Franz CD but I like the single track on the radio... Its got a
real ctachy hook once the meat of the song kicks in. other than that... cough.
The video should win for best, um, artistry... its a classic representation of...

No. Franz Ferdinand are a good band. If you want over-rated nonense than you can look no further than The Libertines. Their new album (2nd one) is utter nonense (produced by Mick Hall out of The Clash). There is one good track on the whole album. Namely no 7 which is called The Ha Ha Wall (Only good track but it is really good). But reading all the different press - you would think that they are the savers of british music....nah. I reckon I have a real quality taste in music so am not really bothered if you don't like Franz beacuse I enjoy listening to that album cos its kooky!

yeah, but remember the british 'music' press (read, guitar bands) is soley concentrating on 12-17 year olds and students - they sell alot of ringtones that way!!

the guy's voice has undertones of iggy, bowie...occasionally what's-his-name-from echo and the bunnymen....
but the production and posturing are just about being.....(well....
the sleeve photos pretty much say it).
unfortunately this reflects in the music.
what's weird is i occasionally hear some nice things...what i might call intelligent-retro...
like cool modern psychedelia in an occasional soundtrack...and franz ferdinand intentionally in the OTHER corner.
i don't care if a song has 18 changes if it's nonsense.
not that there weren't one or two decent riff/beats which lasted about 16 seconds.

i'm glad you got good taste dominic!!!

and how is your argyle sweater fitting today? nicely?
