Are these sonically different at all, since they do seem to have the same architecture....
I'm looking for some cheap fm-ish synhts(hardware, not software)...btw, are the sy22 or the sy35 editable like the dx series (the FM part)

the structure and settings in the fm engines should be the same for the dx100/21/27 (along with some other older yamahas), though there is a chance they dont have the exact same D/A converters and so have a slightly diferent sound to them. I think there was a variant of the dx21 that had a chorus unit on it, or maybe all 21's had chorus, im not completely sure.

those early sy's were 2op fm along with 12bit samples of strings and pianos and crap like that. you cant do a whole lot of interesting fm sounds with just 2 operators.

I hear the newer DX200 desktop synth is heavily under-rated... gonna look into it myself, well cheap also if you find one 2nd hand.

hey my friend andrew is an fm maniac.. has 1/2 dozen fm h/w synths inc. the 200.. selling them ALL cos he registered fm heaven..

i'd buy an analog fm h/w synth, but otherwise.. do yourself a favour!

also checkout the FB01 - a tabletop DX 4 OP module with 4 part multimode

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

Get a DX11 it has a velocity sensitive keyboard.It
also adds some easier modifiers to the mix.DX27 is
a 21 w/ speakers.FB01 needs computer editor like
DX droid for atari or i guess other apps are
available for other platforms.Get a DX11.Find 2
sell me 1.It's like T99 in a keyboard.Nasty easy
to use and the last of the 4 ops if you don't
count that DS thing.Get a DX11.Get a

DX9 too. (I have a dx9 as the master keyboard on the test Duron setup)
