heavy as fuck innit eh?, lol, i can imagine the struggle broadsheet critics are gonna have reviewing this one cos on the one hand it's Stalone who, despite the odd excellent performance (and some fine direction jobs such as his debut Paradise Alley), they see as a total non-actor and general pop dummie... but on the other hand... the film ticks ALL the politicaly concious, right-on, left-of-center, broadsheet-reader checkboxes.

The people suffering the Burmese opression say that the gory scenes are very true to life according to the beeb anyway.It's a total orgy of gore we can watch a film like this but we aren't allowed to witness the real thing something is fucked in that.Films like this have an anesthetizing effect on the consciousness in that the real thing isn't so shocking when we've already been softened up by the ultra realism of massacre scenes served up in regular 2 hour hollywood doses.Truly we have become the society of the spectacle

bit hard to say mate.. I'm reluctant to comment tbh,cos i think i wear 2 hats on the whole thing

i do beleive people are getting generaly de-sensitised in all aspects of their life tho.

the film has thrust burma right center stage tho dont you think,, people are talking about it alot now - i mean look, we're talking about it!

'weird but true' fact about stalone that floored me.... there are only 3 people in the world who have been nominated for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay Oscars in the same year... who?

Since this topic was first created, I have since seen the new Rambo film, and quite liked it. Sly is more intimidating than ever now he's older, making the character more believable.

You can never have enough gore in a film. The more the better as far as I'm concerned.

I also saw Rocky Balboa recently. Which I really liked too. Something about an older actor taking up an old role, you seem to sympathise with them so much more.

Like Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skill, and Harrison Ford. Perhaps they are more vunerable being that much older, or just because they are old friends you grew up watching as a kid. I dunno.

I just hope this trend of old hollywood stars taking up character roles from 30 years earlier doesnt get copied in the porn industry. I really dont want to see Lexington Steele in his 60's trying to lob his dome foam over some blue rinse.
