RE: Alesis_HD24 Fireport
good point, it is a bit slow once you start to transfer large track counts of more than one song in length... I dunno if that firewire port is faster, but surely it'd have to be tho or it couldn't work as described - they describe it as if this makes the HD24 drives accessible for editing direct, as if they were network drives... ironicaly, as it offers network drives to start with, but they must be crippled at 10 base T speed
anyways, about the HD24 Fireport , Alesis says this: Up to 400/Mb/second FireWire audio transfer from ADAT/FST-formatted drives to computer and back
so yes, it'll be way faster - we had the option to hire this unit with the HD24 when we used it (see here:
Recording Senser Live on HD24 (video), but we said no due to the cost... and yes, it took all night to transfer the tracks off the machine over a network... sure you can set that up and leave it overnight or during downtime, but not the best speed as you say

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!
