It's a fantastic thing to look forward too....don't start crying though if I don't name my kid K or
Roland or Smapler.
Life is good sometimes.
Getting a kid so soon after a great wedding....The wedding day was perfect, not 'just' because of
my stunningly beautiful wife, our friends and family, the church, the music or the presence of the
holy ghost (as some like to think) but also because three of our closest friends helped us to
make this fairytale come true.
They took care of everything so well. They were such great friends. One of them in particular.
Friends and family still spoke of his seemingly neverending enthousiasm and energy. Even
yesterday as my sister and wife were watching photo's of the fireworks he arranged for us U.
was jokingly talked about as 'in need of a hook up' with one of our single female friends.
Yesterday I got a phonecall.
Ulven is no longer with us. A few hours before I posted that picture Ulven died of a heart attack.
30 years old, megaintelligent, supertalented and so chock full of energy that no one could keep
up with him.
No one could ever keep up, nothing was ever enough, no adventure crazy enough, no car could
drive fast enough .When the rest of us were still debating wether it was safe to swim in the pond
near the bottom of the Aqua Azul waterfall Ulven had already rushed out, jumped in, swam
against the current and climbed the damn waterfall all way to the top. (despite literally 20 or so
signs telling us the mortal danger of even swimming there).
I guess he couldn't wait to rush into other side before the rest of us could.
I hope the God keeps a tiny spot available on some cloud, despite the fact that both Ulven and I
don't really believe such a God exists. Ulven deserves it.
I always kinda knew he would be the first of tor group go. Ulven never seemed to be in this life
for the long, slow run. That wasn't him. He was to go out with a bang. Get eating by a great white
shark, blow himself up with dynamite, crash his motorbike into a granite wall.
If only he would have waited just a bit longer.
One more time of partying. One more time of drinking all night. One more time discussing the
intricacies of space. One more time arguing about me (or anybody else for that matter) not
keeping up with him. One more time us cheating with the cards (always right under the noses of
our two toxicated oponents). One more time climbing a mountain, putting on our tanks and dive
or just one more time of swapping books. One more time...
It really hurts. Thanks for listering to my rant.
