IRC #deetee FAQ
Okay, there have been many people as of late who have asked how to get into IRC to chat with fellow DTers. So here's the basic procedure:
1. Download
mIRC and install it. Make sure the install path does NOT contain any spaces. the usual "Program Files" folder WILL NOT WORK when you get to step two.
2. Download and install the latest version of
Invision for mIRC. This is a script that gives IRC a bit of a prettier face, and it facilitates file transfers with drag-and-drop and explorer niceties. Invision is the bastard that need mIRC in a directory without spaces in the name.
3. Once that's all done, launch mIRC and go to File - Options. On the left, click 'Connect' and on the right select IRC Network: EFnet, and then select the server closest to you. Put in your user name and alternatives and a bogus email
Click 'Connect to IRC Server' and that's all you really need to do to chat. Once you're connected, type "/join #deetee" and you'll be magically transported to the land of geeks.
For file transfers to work, there are a few more steps:
4. Go to mIRC options again, and on the left, go down to 'DCC'. On the right, under 'On Send request:', check auto-get files, minimize, and 'if file exists', resume.
5. Under that same DCC options section is a 'Folders' part. Under that is an option for DCC ignore. Select 'Disabled' and opt not to ever turn it back on.
Now you can easily share hifis with each other. Can't say we're the most interesting lot, but someone usually is there at some point throughout the day. We play a lot of golf. But that's another FAQ
So don't be a stranger. Be a geek.
