OK! DT'ers, here is something that I came up with that will rid your PC of all dodginess forever! I found these tricks during my IT degree and I'm sure you'll agree that they are a god send.
Firstly, create a .reg (windows registry file) and place it in your Start Menu->Startup folder and enter the following:
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1935655697-2146370111-854245398-500\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map Network Drive MRU]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComputerDescriptions]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\
This gets rid of the various address menu items that can get you in too much trouble. Next, if you're running a WinNT PC, create a file named privacy.cmd, or something similar.cmd and place it in your Windows(or WinNT)->System32->Group Policy folder and enter the following text:
@echo off
E:\
rd /s/q E:\windows\tempor~1
rd /s/q E:\windows\cookies
rd /s/q E:\windows\history
rd /s/q E:\windows\temp
md E:\windows\temp
cd E:\docume~1\All Us~1
rd /s/q cookies
rd /s/q locals~1\history
rd /s/q recent
md recent
rd /s/q temp
md temp
cd E:\docume~1\Your User Area
rd /s/q cookies
rd /s/q locals~1\history
rd /s/q recent
md recent
rd /s/q temp
md temp
You may need to replace some of these lines with lines that fit your system. You will also need to replace "Your User Area" with... well.. the name of your user area. Then go to "Start->Find" and enter the search criteria "gpedit.msc" (group policy editor) run the resulting application and go to "Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)->Startup" and add the privacy.cmd program to the Startup properties dialogue. This will delete the index files and cookies, which are impossible to delete when Windows is running and are impossible to find in DOS mode. It works because Windows runs this script during the point when Windows runs DOS executables.
I hope this helps you on your quest to Internet seediness.
Regards.
Steve.
