Ok Guys. It's been WAY too long since someone posted in this forum. Unfortunately, it happend to be an an uncanny time where my virus is acting up. (Must be because I've been making too many Two step tracks ,.. [see other post in main forum for inside joke]) So here goes. I'm in need of a bit of Virus help myself.
Already wrote Access on this problem this morning and now it's almost 24 hours- still no response. Hopefully someone has experience with this problem and can beat the access people to the solution.
This is what i wrote to them:
------------------------------------
I have a Virus Rack OS 2.1.(Type T [Character On the right hand Side @
bootup time that is important to know when updating the OS]) This
morning my virus powered on and is stuck on the "access VIRUS RACK"
screen right after the lovely "access" rotating letters animation. It
will not respond to any front panel buttons nor will it turn off except
via unplugging it from the back. The boot appears normal including the
usual LED light flashes up to this point.
It powers on fine and says the OS information on the screen and the LFO
lights flash in unison with each other and then it goes to the "access
VIRUS RACK" animation and gets stuck here.
I have already tried the following to remedy the problem:
1) Holding the Left Parameter Button down while plugging the virus in.
(from the manual).
2) Holding the Left parameter Button AND power button while pluggin the
virus in. (from the manual)
3) Holding the POWER and STORE buttons down while pluggin the Virus in.
(panic button combos)
4) Holding both buttons (power and left part buttons) Next to the LFO
lights while plugging in the virus.
1 out of 10 power cycle times it finally gets to the patch display
screen and the MIDI Note next to the multi-part number is constantly black
as if it's receiving MIDI data, But since I started to trouble shoot
myself, I had already unplugged ALL cables to my virus except the power
cable. At this point it still will not response to any knobs or
buttons.
I was in multi-single mode before I experienced this problem. Is there
another way to reset the Virus Rack that I am un aware of? I have also
left my virus unplugged (power) today hoping that the day long break
from power will help later when I go to turn it back on the evening after
I return from work. Hopefully the virus will not power up when I plug it
in but instead that the power button on the front will start the power
instead of the power cord. At this point I can do a left parameter
power button "soft reset".
I have not performed any sysex transfers to the Virus Rack since I
updated the OS.
Do you have any suggestions on how I should go about fixing this
problem? If I have not given you enough information to diagnose the problem
or let you know what type of virus I have, please do let me know what
else you require and I will provide it for you.
My virus was purchased from Sweetwater less than a year ago
(9/16/2002).
Thanks for the great product. My Virus is the keystone of my studio
and I would really like to get it back up and running quickly. I'm sure
you understand my current plight and pain.
--------------------------
Doing a bit more research on my unit, I belive the power button has somehow been remapped to a different function(?). All I know is that this sucker is not responding for jack sh*t and I'm really getting desparate to get my virus back up and operational.
Any ideas on this one guys?
Any help would be most appreciated. I will post all findings once this is solved to help future sods in this situation..... Bleh.
Thanks guys.
Cheers,
Matthew
