Oberheim OB-12, ive heard nasy stories (and good) it's only 499.99 and i really need a keyboard and the sound on sound review was quite good, although it could of been some 90 year old house wife reviewing it (no offence to 90 year old house wives tho). Ive also loked at some of the previous comments on it here at dt and varoius other fourms, suppose i really need to play it, i tryed my local dawsons for a demo at no avail so i e-mailed oberheim who are tyring to sort somthing out with turnkey to mabe send me one to dawsons (or my house) for evaluation.

whatdaya think

i like progaming and weird sounds and i like me underdogs.

$499? Wow! I played around with one a couple of times about a year and a half ago. I liked the sounds coming out of it. Almost bought one. Financial prudence kept me from going for it. It was more expensive then too. Get your hands on it and see if you like it. Wonder if there have been new OSs for it since then.

it's an amazing quality synth for that money - absolutely built like a brick shithouse - I only played with one in a store while I was waiting for something for about 10 minutes, but damn! - it's a serious synth and so heavey duty, like an old vintage synth, the build-quality is superb!! and the screen draws little envelopes & stuff as you move the parameter controls if i remember right... anyways, I was WELL impressed!!

Oh and sitar i belive there has been a new os for it, its kinda been relaunched check out sospubs.co.uk (or.com, i duno) for a recent review. many bugs have been worked out, but they dont bother me anyway, my master keyboard at the moment is a yammy djx, so realy need a new one and all those controlers for soft synths ect will be cool, give me a month or 2 and im getting one.

Sitar, sounds like you should get one 2 with the big price reduction and all..

goodnight (again) Fusion;)

see what happens when i smok 2 much

well I guess that synths like Virus & Nova have become so strong in consumers minds that some synths get left off the shelf cos people just dont perceive them as being 'the synth to get' - so swarms of JP8000's get sold etc and this oberheim seems to be overlooked - but then again, if you want all the sounds you hear commonly in trance & other tunes then people will go for those popular synths where they might find preset sounds they hear on records with mebbe also some mild tweaking... so that just leaves the question: Will the OB12 get you the sounds you want, and for that you can only play one and see.

I enjoy tweaking sounds as much as i enjoy making music, at the moment i dont like going for the mainstream synths, i prefer to be different, like i just picked up a cheetah ms6 for a part ex on an old sound card, its great to.

Gibson buys Oberheim.
Gibson ruins Oberheim.
Gibson allows 3rd rate company to produce products bearing Oberheim's name

Replace Oberheim with Steinberger, Tobias, Kramer, or Opcode as necessary.

Can you tell I don't like Gibson? ;)

True. They certainly haven't promoted it well. I liked it lots when I played with it but I don't think Gibson looks at it as a big priority. Bummer.

yeah, made by viscount. Organ people.

its not supposed to be a bad synth at all, just doesn't sound like a virus so it got ignored.

I;m thinking of getting one of these too (they are $599 at musicians friend), it sounds very digital, It would probably be good for ambinet or electro, but not so much for drum and bass, or nu school breaks. i think that the price drop on the ob-12, and MS-2000 is due to the k-station and SH-32, as these VA's (which both went for about a grand last year) or going to get compared to those VA's then they would to the Q's,viruses and nords of the world.
