Except a good part of it is rather dark. Go figure. It's drum'n'bass. Let me know what you think folks. Thanks.

Jeez. What the hell are you doing up this early in the morning, listening to a drum n bass track nonetheless??? What a world :P

Thanks. I reckon I'm up to assorted bits and pieces of an album. There's a commercial with an elderly woman saying that her and her sister are in their 80s and they have so many physical ailments that between the 2 of them they might have enough for 1 working body. That's where my tracklist is at right about now. Improving though. I think this track is pretty solid. I need to put one more break in a spot.

Bedwyr, yes the drums might be a bit soft. I'll go back and check the mix. It might be my encoder. I'm scrutinizing it. Still think it's probably in the mix if there is a problem at all. Can't tell now cuz I can only listen on headphones at the moment. But thanks.

Wow! Sick dude!   Listening at work so can't listen in real detail but sounds like Aphex Twin stuff, really industrial chaos but then dnb... which is good mind you! Like the metallic synth-sound coming in throughout the track. Gonna give it a better listen at home....

plexodus ;-) , woah, very cool sounding... but the mix sounds really bad... hard to hear the elements of the music.

It's nexodus thank you :P I'm trying to upload a better mix of it. Got an error twice. Ironed some things out and gave it some needed breaks that I didn't have time to do yesterday. Wound up with unexpected time today. I'm trying to upload again in a few minutes. Thanks guys.

Yes. Thanks Influx. I've done it already. Just couldn't get it uploaded last night. Maybe it'll go up tonight. Made the transitions work too. I like it.

K! You said a long time ago that I list d'n'b as one of my genres but never write any. Wait til I get the new mix up, but this is finally a d'n'b track. Woohoo! It's a start anyway.

wow sitar that's pretty tough. you've got a real chaotic style, frantic. I think I like your stuff best when it's at it's hardest but (insert usual bit about computer speakers here). I remeber digging that 9/11 one too. pretty ill. I ordered earthlink yesterday, so I look forward to downloading (and others) tunes to give them a proper listen at home.

Thanks Knowa. Yea I like this tune. Might be too frantic. I don't know. But I like it. A better mix of it is waiting patiently for uploading. Congrats on getting earthlink.

And Influx, "damn sitar! feelin pissy?"

Nah. Just starting to get more blood in my veins. Wait til you see what I'm like in 2 months. I'll be totally unbearable

I listened..and it seems very quiet and...no highs....

not necessarily muddy, just not clear. not the typical lofi MP3 sound either

do you ever look at your mixes on a spectral analyzer? like wavelab or the like?

No I haven't. I wouldn't know what to look for. I burnt it to cd last night for someone at workk to hear and it sounds real good. Bass is kicking and the hats are crisp. I have a lot going on with hats and cymbals in this track....short fast hat rolls and stuff and it's all clear. My cymbals seem to diffuse immensely when I encode to mp3. I'm obviously not doing something right.

What do you think of it as a song though?

sounds as if the bass is taking up a lot of headroom - I dunno how the encoding thing works, but maybe the mp3 encoding process is looping off a load of the tops as the bass is so strong?

Nice track anyway, maybe a little bit too busy in parts although that might be due to not being able to pick out the tops too well. So yeah, pretty good .....apart from the arp ;)

I love the bass, I can't relate to the drum much tho', a tad too syncopated weird for my taste. The bass is gorgeous tho'

I might thin out the drums some and will definately change out the hard kick for a more hollow d'n'b style kick. Don't know what I was thinking really. The basses are taking up lots of headroom and I was thinking today that I should start my tracks at lower levels so by the time I'm done I'm pulling the mains up rather than down to stay around the red zone. Is that a good idea???

Thanks a lot for the input.

Forgot, I read about a year ago that mp3 encoders have to make decisions on which information to leave out. The article said the highs get dropped out before anything else, so maybe it's a matter of compensating for that a bit.

you play with the mains ? I'm not very far in the whole recording thing, so ignore my comments, but I was under the impression the mains we're to be left at unity gain? Like, most of my channels peak in the red (kick and bass sure do), but the mains at -4 or something.
Maybe I should'nt have been so hard on brett afterall hey?

Why do they have sliders if you're not supposed to play with them? Anything with a knob or slider is fair game isn't it?

I use mine. I think theres a reason for them bein there

as for my comment on the mix...pretty dumb anyway. its a frickin 28/22 mp3!

I think it sounds cool. I kinda liked the first version for some reason better...

I'm wondering now if it's not redundant. Using a software sequencer there's the individual track levels and then the mains are there in the mixer view. So if I'm at the ceiling level on individual tracks I can go to the mains view where I have each track individually routed to its own main. There I can adjust levels to get the mix right. But I might as well do that in the individual track levels and just send them all to one main for any overall compression, maximizing, or eq. But then why is there an option to have all those mains going out to one pair of speakers. There must be a reason. Or maybe the reason is the more sliders the merrier, which works for me.

I'm not there yet, i'm merely trying to get the juice in the 'puter. I use my four subs to go in the delta wich comes back to the desk 15/16. So in effect my subs work as main and my main as monitor. The rest is too complicated for me, hell I haven't done a mix yet, i'm still after the damn notes. One day i will go in the theory forum and annoy you with questions to no end. Now i go there and scratch my head alot

more sliders the merrier a sure thing, blinking leds are nice too

thinking about it is half MY pleasure and i'm in absolutely no hurry to "get anything done"

where do you get the idea i think you don't know shit? I've reread and couldn't figure it out.

Oh, and the reason i'm set up like that, is so i can bypass the puter totally. Just silence the shit box, damn cooling fans

Just me thoughts!

Got ya. Thanks for listening Marc. And you're right. Thing is that the drums are much clearer on the cd I burnt. But yea. Something has to make more room for the drums and I need to thin some things out and change he kick. This is a good step for me.

Influx your tracks rock. You do know about mixing. Quite a bit. I think you've zero-d in on how one needs to work the studio to get those mixes. Stop being so modest :P
