Have you used tape before? Does it really
conquer the digital edge? Some of my mixes
sound tooooo digital. I need some analog
texture in my recordings.

Someone told me about the pultec eq, and run
it through that... But the prices were way too
high on that... Someone also told me to run it
through a BIg Briar low pass. But, will that do
any good with the high end ass?

They probably meant to run it thru the BigBriar without actually doing anthing with it. just leaving it wide open...

The idea is, that certain hi-quality analog pieces possess a certain color which they can lend to your sound, like a Focusrite or classical Neve gear. That actually works. I pull mixes thru a tube compressor (when i have one around me) to "warm them up" a bit. Its the same with analog tape, except you have to watch out for the signal to noise ratio. Tape machines demand a lot of care if they are to function properly, and that includes checking head alignment from time to time, which is not that simple to do.

there are plenty of tape emulator plug-ins, but i cant say how well they work.

why not just get an old quad or rogers or whatever valve pre-amp, and run the mix thru that and out to the pc or dat to get a take? that'd add some nice old valve sound

Sometimes I just make a simple cassette recording of a
digital track and it sounds much warmer
