I've heard good things about this new VST sampler. What do the rest of you think?? Is it worth buying or is there a better VST sampler alternative??

Halion is real nice. It has a couple little bugs but it's amazingly stable for a Steinberg product. It's a joy to work with, it makes all the little things like mapping samples and setting up envelopes easy and quick. It lets you get deep if you want. Now with 1.1 you can map to note offs and modulation settings and use switch notes. It's kinda like GigaSampler Jr.

The only big downsides to Hal in my opinion are that the filters are crap compared to just about any hardware sampler and that it uses Cubase's file system which I've heard causes problems in other applications.

what about this new Creamware Volksampler ?... looks ok... it's their card based sampler in s/w as i understand it, reads all the same formats as the card based dsp version...

the forum section at www.cubase.net has tons of threads discussing the merits and bugs in halion. my impression is that its oriented towards "real" instrument sounds. Just got Battery and, like everyone else, I am blown away. Be sure to check it out.--noah

I never tried the Creamware sampler, I got a copy somewhere of the version they were giving out for free. I never used it 'cause the word was it ran way too heavy on the CPU.
