ok so as we all know the 808 goes boom boom and the 909 goes thump thump .. the 909 is more in your face up font and punchy wile the 808 is more of a laid back solid bass tone with a click but in a very cool way, sometimes when I'm doing club I need a 909 for that drive since I only work with a 808 now (and a sampler) for my drums I need to know how I get that thump into the 808 (I know the tuning on the 909 is what really makes it thump but I hear club tracks espacially in the deep house department using 808's and they thump so nicely so i'm guessing compressor ?? or layering?, one thing is for sure and that's that the copressor on my 01v won't give it that push.. anyone getting a thump in their 808 kick, please share

yeah, try making a composite sample with the 909 attack and 808 decay but the booming 909's you hear might be acheived thru hard eq driving. to get drum thump/attack emphasis you want slow attack, and short/shortish decay ...

nope it won't cut it .. the thing is that the tuning on the 909 is like actual tuning of a real drum "tightening the skinn" giving it a more of a bang/thump.. the tuneing on a 808 is like a mixtrue between a tone/pitch and pop/click.. so it won't thump even though it will make the biggest boooms ..

??? well on mine it don't ... just changes the tone/pitch and the mix of the click/pop sound, and mine works like it should, u can get a mod though that has "real" tuning for the kick but I dunno on how effectif that is.. although it has a real round punch to it doesn't quite hit/thump like a 909 ..

no it wont, they are different boxes, but the 808 has it's own type of punch - mebbe your monitors arent up to it or you eq it wrong?

? I run krk rokits and the 01v has very flexible eq's.. I doupt it has anything to do with that .. and I think we r all on the same page too.. just reading it diffrently .. yhea I agree the 808 will punch but like the thread title reads: how do I make it punch like a 909 .. and the answear was compressor .. but now it can,?, but my mixing isn't right ?? thump thump ... I agree to disagree

agreed, you cant make a 808 'punch' like a 909 so that's that.
