this is a new thread to contribute ideas and questions for creative sample processing...

to start off......

take your samples and timestretch them to 50, 150, 200%
then layer those over the original

ex... <----original loop--->
<---50%---><---50%--->

once you find one that sounds good you can cross modulate or whatever because they are already in time...same thing works for basslines too...

is this the right forum?

anyway,

take a bassline sample that has plenty of high frequencies and make an exact copy, hi-pass filter everything out apart from the very high freq of the second sample and then layer them together...

depending on the source you should have a nice phasey bassline where the bass is still solid.. but you get the illusion from the high freq.

a variation on the above - make two copies and pan one left and the other right (hipass filter both) - detune or dephase them slightly (to get the stereo image like sample 1= +4 cent/sample 2 = -4 cents) , then play at the same time as the original bassline for a sort of stereod up version.

you can allways do this with the bass part but it'll be a bugger to mix.

has anyone played with putting short delays on drum loops, or putting a some kind delay on a filtered layer of the loop?

now theres an idea!! delay on the filtered part of the loop.
I used to just play a loop at 80bpm and use the same loop at 160bpm on top that way it stays in time and has that busy feel, (filter either loop)

yup!

you can also try detuning a bassy drumloop -12 and filter it to fuck.. stick it through a compressor with a high ration (-36db 25x) and anything else.. instant techno club deep rolling bass that sits behind the kick. sounds fucking great with a really crisp short hihat on the offbeat.
