Subject: Drum Machines v Sequencers

Is using a sequencer like cubases drum sequencer as good or better than using a drum machine to sequence your beats.

Well, I would say sequencer because U can nudge the beats either side a little bit and have much greater control over accent, pitch etc. 2 create a more realistic feel. Drum machines aint without their benefits though - analogue drum machines like the 909 will always have more presence in the mix than their sampled counterparts. Its horses 4 courses really - if youre into 4/4s then theres little 2 B lost from goin` drum machine, if you`re into breaks dont even think about it.

Both are damm good but to answer the question it depends on what your making. As for the reply above the RM1x (Yamaha) can "nugde" drum beats with better resolution and with greater ease than my version of logic audio (3.6). That is logic divides 16 steps in to 196, the RM1x divides in to 480!
