Most definitely, you could use every scale known to man in a song whether or not it would make any musical sense is another thing what exactly do you want to do?

I was just wondering how usual it is in "dancemusic".

So, you can jump from a chord you are playing to another chord which is in other scale?

d'n'b, techstep, techno-yes
trance, euro, house-no (you need to follow the strict rules of either Jazz or Classical theory for modulation)
If all else fails, use your ears.

Peaceout,

Peter

...just listening to Paul van DyK's "Avenue" (trance) ; it modulates(?) between minor and major of the same chord; wasn't "I Feel love" similar? (or "Also sprach Zarathustra", heh heh).. i think there must be others, too

Also Sprach Zarathustra is actually modal mixture, which is when a major melody has minor elements in it. Things like playing a minor chord prog, but ending with a major I chord (also known as a "tierce de picardie" I think) are very common.

Peaceout,

Peter

i think the "picardian third" refers to old habit ending minor key tune to major chord, because major third is more closely related (as an overtone) to root tone as minor. (Think michellle by beatles, or Bach compositions). Minor third was considered a harmonic clash. (ps i appreciate your comment peter!)

for trance; aeolian, dorian, or mixolydian scales are better suited than classic minor or major. or phrygian for dark tunes.

Ok then... which scales would be good to use together? (I like dark and mystical melodies quite a lot)

Thanks for the answers and I hope I'm not asking too meny questions in here.
