Ok. If any of you out there have heard "Gravity of Love" by Enigma, the song starts to pick up when this huge, lumbering drum beat comes in. It's the biggest, sloppiest sound and it's beautiful. Any ideas how this could have been done? I've tried reverb and eq, but it doesn't give the effect I'm trying for. Advice of any sort could be useful! BTW, I really hope I'm in the right forum with this...

Hey! For some reason I didn't even think of that. I'll give that a whirl when I get off work and see what happens. Thanks!

also, adding some very short slap-back delay subtley (or heavily if you like!!) makes the drums sound larger, you can also try messing with panning between the original and the toms - for tom-rolls say, you can pan the toms one side, and the slap-back delay to the other side... when the toms roll, the sound wacks across the speakers with a fat wide stereo spread, then add some 'verb ... if you route that slapback delay into a gate reverb or add gate reverb (a touch) to the drums too it all add's up to make a fatter bigger sound, and dont also forget rythemic delays which can make beats (especially breakbeats) sound big & flowing (most of these are rock/pop techniques tho)
