I Can't afford a posh sound card because I've just spent £300 upgrading my PC, will a standard 16 bit Soundblaster work with VST?

I don't use audio much, just midi, so I'm not bothered about immaculate sound just yet, until I have some more cash. Is it worth spending the £30 odd on Soundblaster, or is there something better for the price?

Also does anyone know if Cyrix chips support VST (686/Pr200), I've heard they don't.
