RE: New MPC-2000XL
Ok, I just got the MPC2k XL like 2 weeks ago and it's the bomb...
It was between it and the ASRX and I tried and returned the ASRX...
Someone asked can it play regular sounds, yes of course it can. However if you're looking for a full synthesizer sampler (that can take a sample and add LFO's, complex envelopes and crazy filters) this is not it, get a rack sampler.
When you sample a synth noise or something, you have a attack/decay amplitude and filter envelope, a useable resonant lowpass filter and a velocity/filter and velocity/pitch setting. This does not have crazy highpass/multi-sloped shite. You can change the pitch of a sample up or down a total of 4 octaves and you can set a loop point within a tonal sample for sustain (this is what sample synthesizers do) so...
In addition to this fair amount of synthy options, the sequencer is the best hardware sequencer on the market, straight up. It's only 96ppq, but that has nothing to do with the processing power...this thing is tight, you can add crazy continuous controller changes and it will not skip a beat.
But, if you're doing computer sequencing, do not buy this box; a big part of it is the sequencer. For the money you could get a rack sampler that is more synthy or an ASRX (I'm still not sure I'd go for this...it feels rather toyish...)...
anyway....
