RE: Mixing
I just recorded a track, with VERY HEAVY bass, and the bass slips right under the kicks. The kick punches, and drops, and thuds and stuff, but the bass is really tight, and thick. The key to making work is ALWAYS LEAVING HEADROOM. You can can always normalize after, but to really get your bass to work, you just have to leave room for it in the mix. The track doesn't sound super loud, but all of the instuments are low noise, and you just crank up the output, using that head room, and all of a sudden, it sings. Can't wait to encode this thing into mp3 for you fools.
It'a all about the sounds dancing together.
