all i can say is this... get your drums rocking with the bassline and forget EVERYTHING YOU EVER LEARNED OR HEARD about eq' frequencies etc etc.. DUMP ALL THAT STUFF... now.. listen to the drums & bassline... make them dance together... remember.. FORGET the rest.. if they aint dancing together you'll just be polishing a turd if you go further

well, to me it's like sambe or other dance-for-three-days music.. drums/beats everything else is incidental, and people dance in the drop-downs in the EXPECTANCY of the drums arriving again..

This is so, but you don't always need drums to create a beat or more importantly; a groove. However they certainly help.

um... where do you go clubbing ??   - they normaly dont dissapear for more than a minute... mebbe try moving OUT of the ambient room at some parties for a change

You can easily build a groove with sounds that are not drums. Try the first track off of FSOL ISDN. Plenty like that, or Autechre, or loads of other stuff not using drum sounds to build a groove... Come on dude.
