Fastest selling album in history. What's the appeal? Have the caught a moment or something?

I like it. That Alex Turner has got some really good lyrics IMO.

Or is it just a re-hash of old Jam/Kinks riffs?

yes it'll prolly go down in rock history with other 'seminal' albums & people will still talk about it in years to come... um...

it's ok, but we're so used to product hype nowadays for films, music etc and it never lives up to the marketting. It's good indie but big advanced sales orders (which is what that means) due to global media/news hype doesn't a 'long-term classic' make.

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

maybe the kids like it and woolworths have agreed to stock it? generally helps other pop acts dominate the chart

supposedly all their fans colluded to go out and buy it at once, which was why they've got two number ones and this fastest selling album thing. Not a bad band though.

i guess im lucky in that i never listen to the radio (dont have one), watch top of the pops or indulge in any of this z-list celebrity mush so aren't exposed to all of this, you could introduce any band i listen to and they will be better than anything in the charts at the mo, not to say i have great taste but moreso the charts is full of uninspired trite....

i feel for ya dom, i really do....

one interesting thing about this band, apart form the jam/kinks thing is the way the marketing has worked ...

the original vibe was without 'industry' support .. free downloads, myspace etc. then sony/bmg/whoever got on board and carried on with the 'no promotion' thing -

they've "not really done any interviews" ... but they've had a ton af media coverage about the lack of industry support and how they've "not really done any interviews", the guardian love them.

apart form that, i like 'i bet you look good ...' the off-kilter chords are nice.
