Awwww, this sounds fucking scary for me, putting an AI into the position to decide what shall be released, what is "good music"...

Well, i guess most of the released stuff sucks anyway...

If they can't even get auto red-eye reduction down pat in Photoshop, how can they even pretend to do this?

especially since it's mostly musicians that have redeye all the time.

It's interesting, scary, might be a good thing. If the industry morons take tunes by Brittany, Cher, and songs like The Hampster Dance to analyze and pump out more of the same...I have a feeling that's what's gonna happen with it. If they knew any better or had better intentions they could use it to expand maybe. But it's that old saying, garbage in, garbage out. It could make the industry better but probably the people in charge are gonna go with the formulas that work. Look at rock and roll in the US. People still eat Springsteen up. In the end most listeners will eat whatever they're fed 50 times a day on the radio. Doesn't matter what it is.

"In the end most listeners will eat whatever they're fed 50 times a day on the radio. Doesn't matter what it is."

Never heard it put any better. That just sums up the entire commercial music scene

However, this new music-prediction-device could be good for making twats like Pete Warterman homeless!

Regards.

Steve.

OK, where's the punchline? I just cannot believe this is serious. Companies are going to pay for a service that tells them what kind of music people are going to like? Worked out by a computer? Nah.
"If your customers like Garreth Gates they will probably like Will Young. That will be a thousand dollars please"
"But I could have told you that for free"
" Ah, but this was worked out by a computer using emotion simulation software"
Before long we'll have software that will listen to the music and appreciate it for us so we don't have to bother.

Ever read Douglas Adams' Dirk Gentley's Holistic Detective Agancy per chance? It features a robot monk from the furture, which was programmed to beleive in things and watch TV for us, so that we have more time to do other things. It gets confused after watching 10 different religious programs at once and is then convinced that the world is pink.

Verry funny.

Steve.
