well, due to another thread i tried it tonight... BLOODY HELL!... There's a mate who's a 'pro' (the one working with Zimmerman) and he swears by it...

anyways, you gotta try it!... wavelab is good, but this i think is worht seriously looking at as an option to getting a cracking eq & valve comp & limiter plugins such as waves etc for use when mastering... the valve sound is awesome!... tracks really pump with it like in a club... I ran that track '20 quid to get in' thru it and the difference when you add/remove the process is frankly, staggering!... All that time and i never tried it, it's amazing!

it wont do your other editing chores, but man, the price for this compared to getting a clutch of serious plugs to use in a host is really competitive... they got a pro-tools rtas plugin version too!... you can get your track as hot as hell with this, it'll leap out of the speakers!

I used to use it a lot. When I went to the DSP Factory card on Windows XP it stopped liking my setup and wouldn't run properly.. I wonder if there's a fix for that or something..

I have been considering both Waves and T-Racks (got demo's of both). My question is do you think for a bedroom musician, like myself, a software/hardware mastering unit like this or the Finaliser Express should be purchased. If I ever have a track released, touch wood, wont the mastering house run the track through something likethis anyway? Can you not achieve the same results with a good mix? I'd appreciate advice on this.

wel sure yes a mastering house will do that, but they charge alot.. you can sometimes cut hundreds off your CD duplication bill of you drop their mastering charge - as for vinyl that's different.. more specialised. The thing is with T-RACKS, your home burnt Cd can have the same 'hotness' as commercial CD's (more chance of radio airplay for example).

but wavelab will do your redbook CD. So if you decide to do a mix CD and want it track marked properly then you need wavlab. Especially if you plan on mixing your own tracks on your album. "Disc at once" in other apps is not redbook. And the L1 and C1 are awesome, so are the REQ's. It is of coarse much more expensive route. But wavlab is also a great sample editor .
I pulled an entire audio track of a CD library two days ago, hit remove silence feature and it exported separated all the loops and exported them to there own file. then I could scroll through demo-ing and pull the ones I want back into wavelab and transmit to my sampler via scsi through the wavelab sampler section. Recycle can do some of this but the track length is limited in Recycle. You can import any length in Wavelab. Plus you get sample rate conversion. conversion to mono, DC offset removal, montage track editing for mixing tracks. I did some bmp stuff, and you can stretch up to 15% before noticing any artifacts. So it is great for mastering songs, but even capable of mastering the entire album.

also SF with the redbook plugin does mastering of course... I quite like Soundforge actualy, but I prefer wavelab, although some batch processing in SF is better wavelab isn't very effective where a folder of different bitrate samples is in need of converting as far as I can see, (haven't tried WLab4 yet tho)

So master in T-racks and lay out your CD in Wavelab or whatever you like.

K, I don't know, I can check for you, but I think it's still one rate to the other. But damn the interface is so nice to look at. They moved some stuff so I was ambling through it the other night when I was trying to save a file to mono and remove silence and export another file as seperate files for use in recycle.
Instead of using the save special/convert, you just click "save as" and choose mono and the smaple rate and it does it in place so it reloads into the workspace. For sample editing I prefer it over SF anyday. Don't use the batch features much.

just been batch converting with wavelab4, the thing it won't do is convert sample rates, you have to do those individualy as far as i can see. pain in the arse.
