I asked for the orchestral score to the nutcracker suite for my birthday, so I can learn all of the various aprts, and why they work together. How much of a geek is that?

isn't there a music library near where you live? anyway, that's not geeky. If you get a chance, check out some Debussy pieces, "Jeux" is a good one. Some pretty crazy stuff in there, he uses a lot of whole-tone and indonesian-style scales.

Peaceout,

Peter

Have you tried the classical midi archives you can get top quality midi files and then examine the parts in a sequencer not as pretty as manuscript but excellent for analysis.

That earope prog does sight reading excercises but if you want real headnip try reading tenor, alto, treble and bass clefs all at once with a few french horns and tenor sax thrown in for good measure.

Because it's one of my favorite pieces, and i could stand to listen to it a few times while learning it, complex enough to be interesting, simple enough for me to be able to pick out the parts by ear as well eye and make the connections well enough but not too well. Just a good tool, I guess, and prety music.

well, i gotta reccomend that you buy a copy of switched on bach, and record it and slow it down. serious overdubbing on that album, and bach invented the maority of what we study nowadays. bach and orbital. haha
just a though, (bedrich smetana's "the moldau" is a lovely piece also)
