I'm in the market for a digi mixer. I need 8 channels but what if i buy more equpitment? (massive dilema)

The mixer needs to have built compressors on each channel and preffrebly FX as well, am i being unreasonable to ask for this? how much am i expecting to pay for a decent one? whats the meaning of life?

MAN I'M CONFUSED, somebody help

comp's on each channel?.. thats asking a bit.. ASSIGNABLE comps you can put on any channel from a total of x amount available... sure... the short answer is no... there are no cheap ones that'll do alot of channels... the yammy 01 does 16 tho, and has 8 i/o adat lightpipe to send over subs to the pc for taping prior to burning etc... tascam have just released a cheap one at about 500-600 street price.. but it is limited for channels... dunno if they clock to link two or more tho...doubt it.. but you could run a combi of analog mixer for your synths, and dig mixer for your pc tracks....cos the midi mixer in the sequencers will do all the stuff like mute etc for the midi tracks... you can then route the analog mixer into the dig mixer on a couple of aux returns or channels that way you can route stuff to dig outs to record

Yup, 01V has compressors on almost every channel (not the 8 expansion channels, although you can reassign a bank of 8 compressors and 4-band eqs to the expansions from channels 1-8), also 2 FX processors. Sounds great.

I paid $1500 US for mine at guitar center.

yup, save your clams and get an o1v... i never worry about getting stuff done in the mix now, i just make music and the board is so well laid out you just don't think about what you are doing, it just happens.

also, the sound quality is sooooooo nice man. i am a big fan of the yamaha fx stuff.

i am selling a juno and i am used to hearing it through my o1v and its fx... recently took it to a local studio to sell it and while they were listening they ran it through an alesis midiverb something or another. (small studio!) and man it sounded like crap...

don't even get me started on total recall of your settings. try working on 4 songs at once on your normal mixer!

the problem with the o1vs is that even using 24 inputs, i still need more sometimes but that is my only complaint.

"the problem with the o1vs is that even using 24 inputs, i still need more sometimes but that is my only complaint"

My solution to that is to sub-mix using a Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro. The 1202 comes in handy for 'small jobs' too, like submixing a few keyboards in a DJing scenario.

Use the sub mixer for 'set and forget' stuff like FX returns. All I normally change is the fader lever, EQ if I'm feeling adventurous.

I've started to use external FX with my 01v. I've now got a Roland SRV3030 for reverbs.

Parameters on the 01v's reverbs are a tad limited IMO (when compared to some of the available seperates)...

That SRV3030 is one hell of a bargain here in the UK - £299 for a very, very good reverb. And it's got RSS albeit in a non-programmable way. Good stuff.
