This whimsical piece evolved over a week or so though the notion of the title has been with me for a while, and was once even the basis for a song that was eventually put on the back burner....Do you ever wish for a spell where you could be buffeted around with no worries or obligations and want for nothing but to just get the winds of life in your sails and blow you whither they will? It took many twists and turns and eventually setlled in a place I certainly didn't expect but one just goes with the flow doesn't one?

Dedicated to Freddie Philips, whose music gave me so much joy as a child. One year round about '72 the farm I lived on grew a load of beans for a certain large frozen food company. There was a massive build up to the arrival of the harvesters which had to come the long way round 'cause they were too big for the canal bridge nearby... To an 8-year-old it was all very exciting. This is a recent tune, the guitar part came first, the rest was filled in after using whatever came to hand including the PG Tips monkey, an african drum and a few bits from my kids' collection of toy instruments. I've tried to capture the rhythmic, pulsing threshing of the machines. As with all my stuff I'll return to it one day, but for now I'll sit on it and see if I get any further ideas. In recognition of my favourite place, the first part is the pastoral Malham Beck and Janet's Foss which then gives way to the rugged drama of Gordale Scar and Malham Cove and the moors beyond. It opens with a simple riff and is gradually built upon. I deliberately tried not to be too folksy or ragtimey here and just followed it where it went.. thanks for viewing

We had a friend called Adam whose parents kept a boat moored on the canal behind their house. It was a weird thing; the bow was inverted and it was actually propelled by a paddle like on the mississippi steamboats (only smaller!). It was aptly called 'Platypus'. That stretch of the canal, thirty years on, is still known as Adam's boat. A lovely place. This is a leisurely cruise of a tune;found objects used here incude beer bottles and a tankard. Jammed from scratch in a couple of hours using a toy melodeon, a toy fiddle and a guitar plus lots of reverb. I wanted to create the idea of an empty place that would normally be bustling.... think disused mine, Marie Celeste etc... file under experimental. Thanks for peepin'.
