Waxx   -   details

As one of Melbourne’s new and upcoming Trance DJs, Waxx, a.k.a. Luke Tan has brought the genre to a whole new level with his creative ear and attention to detail. Ever since putting headphones to ear and decks to hand in 2002, Waxx has quickly made a name for himself as a resident DJ with the wildly successful Transcendence events hosted by UK DJs Stewart Rae and Dan Ainsworth. His success with the Transcendence crew hit a high with the Solid vs Transcendence gig at Area 61 in St Kilda, where he played the peak set to a highly receptive crowd. Waxx has also played at popular Trance club Altitude and at the Frantic Pre-Party. His distinct trademark Trance style has dazzled Trance and non-Trance lovers alike, with his ultra-smooth pitch mixing blended with seamless scratching and innovative FX.

Trance aside, Waxx’s talent extends to Tribal Progressive and Deep House (influenced by the sounds of Zouk Club in Singapore) having been a resident at the famous lounge/bar, Bimbo Deluxe for over a year. He has also played back to back with DJ Promo(UK) who's played at superclubs like Ministry of Sound and Fabric. He has also raised the roof with the Vital Act crew with both his Hard Trance and Tribal Progressive House beats. His ability to inspire groovers on the dance floor has impressed event organisers. He has been invited to play for film festivals, Space Health Club’s birthday bash and at Loop Bar for a Graphic Design Exhibition, where there were repeated requests for encores '1 more...1 more!'

Waxx’s repertoire extends beyond original DJing techniques into remixing and music producing. He has composed his own original dub and instrumental pieces such as ‘Nobody’s Home’ and ‘The Valley’. Waxx cites Tiesto, Shadow, Murk and Aldrin as his DJ inspiration alongside, Jose Padilla, BT and Infected Mushroom for music producing. At the same time he maintains his aspiration to be an innovative artist. With his audio engineering background, Waxx’s ultimate goal is to travel to the UK to gain more musical experience before returning to Melbourne to fulfil his ambitions.
