Not much to say - too much tuning to do - returning to DAnce/House after a long holiday playing 9-5 job slave - music is much loved much missed, and much overdue.
I have an honest, friendly tip for anyone starting out in whatever genre of music that I learned through experience - take it or leave it - here goes:
Too much musical stuff (software/hardware) DILUTES THE CREATIVE JUICES!
Work hard with what you have!
Stop toying with the notion that you "Have to have the best of everything" - you really honestly DONT.
You need:
>>>>>TALENT (You)
>>>>>Creativity (Your life-experiences whatever your age)
>>>>>to be unstemmed by obsession.
Above all - be honestwith yourself.
When you are listening through to that final mixdown and you have your eyes closed, the lights dimmed and the amp cranked, can you honestly say to yourself - "I would happily buy that track for a tenner"?
If not, go back and make it WORTH MONEY
Ooh - controversial hey? I hear ya, here's what I say..
You say "!Why Rakk - what makes you say that? I do it cos i love it etc etc etc"
I say : In the field of all genres of Dance Music your track's monetary value to somebody - DJ/Fan/Clubber/Nutter - is directly related to it's creative value - FACT.
My tunes are still only worth around 2 quid, but trust me when I say they will improve.
Rakk Rant(TM) over
Feel free to email me and disagree/agree - it's all good.
Kitlist details
Three things I have, one thing I do:
1. A Novation REMOTE 25 midi controller (for touchy feely tweaking and playing)
2. A PC which I built myself P4 2.4G, Yamaha SW100XG Soundcard (old but reliable)
3. A copy of Propellerhead's Reason 2.5 and a couple of Refills for it.
What else? Nothing. No money, no need.
