Now bear with me on this...the name Crummie has its roots in 11th Century Scotland, translating from its orginal Gaelic form as 'thief' or 'crook'. It followed the family to Ireland and eventually back up towards Hadrian's Wall in Newcastle. As interesting as this is, it's not exactly the sort of name you'd expect to see in lights in the Westend, which is why Iain Crummie adopted 'the reckless general' as a pseudonym, taken from a song he wrote with a previous band, and inspired by the Sebastian Faulks novel Birdsong.
From performances in places as diverse as Tokyo, Sapporo, and now the musical centre of the universe, Gateshead, Crum has just started performing again after a three year break and with a new project name, the reckless general. Using a combination of his own material and songs co-written with Iain Willis, he sees 2007 as a breakthrough year, having quit a high-powered dog's body job in London to return home to the North-East (unfortunately for his brother) and pursue his life-long ambition of making a living as a songwriter.
This EP represents the best of a 6-year period of work written in locations varying from Rhodes, Tokyo, Sapporo, London and Middlesbrough during a phase in life where the bubble of studenthood has well and truly burst and the hand of life deals the average person a mighty smack in the face. He tries to approach everyday topics with a new perspective and hopes people will not only be able to identify with his honest and earthy lyrical style, combined with a few...well just plain catchy ditties but also feel inspired to tell others of this little corner of the internet.
