A quick question - I'm a relatively new dj, slowing getting equipment. I just new phones - Technics 1210s   - which are really nice, but for some reason they just won't give me any bass from the mixer, probably even less than my old phones which were pretty low end sonys.
The volume coming thru them is fine, its just almost completely lacking any bass.
Would I be correct in assuming that this is the fault of my crap mixer (a numark 1001x). Is there anything I can do - or would I be needing to buy a new mixer?

Well my decks are 1200s as well but they're not really the issue.
The new phones I bought are technics rp-dj1210.
Technics do both, no doubt a shameless cash-in on the success of the tts.

really...no wonder i got confused. dont know how to help you, did you try pluging them into a hi-fi or something, just to check what it sounds like there? or can it be that the phones actually are crap?

i have the cheapest no-name mixer you could imagine and i never noticed anything lacking...

Only problem with crap mixers is they tend to be a bit noisy. Make sure you have your deck's are earthed (to the mixer), my decks were putting out heaps of noise till I figured that one out (der).

Well, I might suggest buying a good headphone pre-amp...one with EQs of some kind...I use a REDSound Micro BPM--It gives you High and Low frequency cuts, plus, gives you a real-time read out of one channel's BPM--very useful for syncing FX or outboard MIDI Gear--but thats a different story =)...check out www.novamusik.com, then go to the REDSound section--they have info on the MicroBPM and a cheaper one that acts as just a Headphone Pre-amp...I bought mine for $80, so they are very cost effective....hope that helps some!

Peace,
Lucid

No problems with the Technics cans here. They were recommended to me by Mark Allen no less (Return to the Source resident).
