Could someone tell me what the semitone distance is between the notes in a 9th chord? For an example a C major (C-E-G). Starting at C you go 4 senmitones up and from E you go 3 semitones up. No inversions please.

8 notes = an octave.

so



9th is the same as 2nd. Key of C it's a D.



C9 = C-E-G-Bb-D.



The inversions and substitutions are where you get the flavor.



For a spacious chord try C-G-Bb-E-G-D or C-E-Bb-D-G



Or leave the root and the 5th out, the C and the G.



Anyway:


C to E = Major 3rd


E to G = minor 3rd


G to Bb = minor 3rd


Bb to D = Major 3rd
